April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate, the Imagine Nation Museum is conducting its annual Youth Poetry Contest! Entrants in grades kindergarten to grade 6 are invited to submit their original poems to the contest for prizes and awards!
Poetry Slam
Winners and Honorable Mentions will be invited to read their winning
selections at the Imagine Nation Museum Poetry Slam on Tuesday, April
29th at 4:00pm. Winners will be notified the week of April 21st.
Judging
The judges will be comprised of a panel of teachers, librarians, and poetry lovers.
Awards
Awards and prizes will be publicly announced at the Poetry Slam reading.
Prizes will be awarded for each grade, Kindergarten-Grade 6. Some
time after the reading, each reader will receive a copy of all the
winning poems. Winners may also be invited to read their work at future
museum events.
Entry Guidelines:
1. Poems can be of any subject matter, type or style.
Entries must be original; no previously published poem will be accepted.
2. Length of each entry must not exceed 32 written lines, this may be one poem, or up to three short poems, whose cumulative total does not exceed 32 written lines.
3. All entries must be typed, single-sided, 12 point type, on plain 8 ½ x 11" paper. The title of the poem should appear on the top of the page.
4. Submit one original and one copy. On the copy only type in the top right hand corner, name, grade, age, phone number, and address.
5. Entries will not be returned.
6. Deadline: Entries must be received
by Friday, April 18 at 5:00pm, in a sealed envelope marked
"Poetry Contest". Mail to: Imagine Nation Museum, One Pleasant
